
INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Internships at the Historical Society of Frederick County provide students with valuable career-oriented experiences in variety of disciplines. Majors in Education, History, Library Science, Anthropology, Art History and related fields are strongly encouraged to apply. Professional staff directly supervise all internship projects and every effort is made to match your education, experiences, talents and career goals with projects that will benefit the society.
Curatorial Internship: For students interested in working with artifacts, this internship offers the opportunity to assist the curator in cataloging and preserving objects in the Historical Society's museum collection. Students may also be able to assist in exhibit research and set-up.
Education and Visitor Programs Internship: This internship is ideal for those students seeking teaching and curriculum development experience. Possible intern responsibilties include: conducing tours for all age groups, developing programs for adult, family and school audiences, and assisting in seasonal family events.
Research Assistantship: Research Assistants help the staff of the historical society with exploring various aspects of Frederick County History. Past research projects include: researching objects for an upcoming exhibit, interviewing local dignitaries for an oral history project and investigating local history for educational programs.
Library and Archival Internship: The Frederick County Archives and Research Center seeks students interested in history to help with various library and archival projects. Past internship opportunities include: digitizing oral histories into the library database, compiling the Society's Civil War resources to assist researchers and indexing periodicals and books.
