Fast Frederick Facts

Dr. Ulysses Bourne, Sr. co-founded the first hospital for blacks at 173 West All Saints Street in Frederick in 1919. He also was a founder of the Maryland Negro Medical Association and served as its first president.

Museum of Frederick County History Docent: Share the wonderful history of Frederick County with people from all over the world, while guiding them through the Historical Society museum located in an 1820s Federal style house. Shifts available : Mon.-Sat. from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. and Sun. 1:00-4:00 p.m.

Roger Brooke Taney House Docent: Demonstration at the Taney HouseTell the story of an early Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and everyday life in Frederick in the 1800's. Some docents may be trained in open-hearth cooking and other living history demonstrations. Shifts available : Sat. 10:00 am- 4:00pm and Sun. 1:00pm-4:00pm, April through November.

Curatorial & Research Assistant: Do you like antiques and textiles? Work with the Museum curator to catalog and preserve artifacts. Also, assist in research and exhibit set-up. Positions available at both museums. Shifts: MFCH, Mon.-Fri. 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.; Taney House, Flexible Hours

Special Events: Assist in the set-up and implementation of special events such as family programs, the Lecture Series, the Treasured Heirloom Event, and Museums by Candlelight. Special Events volunteers work on select evenings and weekends throughout the year.

Garden Assistant: Do you enjoy gardening? The Society needs knowledgeable gardeners for some light gardening work in the Heritage Garden and the Roger Brooke Taney House. Seasonal

Marshall Etchison Bookstore: Assist visitors and ring up sales at the Society’s Marshall Etchison Book Store. Shifts Available: Mon.-Sat. from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
