Fast Frederick Facts

Dr. Ulysses Bourne, Sr. co-founded the first hospital for blacks at 173 West All Saints Street in Frederick in 1919. He also was a founder of the Maryland Negro Medical Association and served as its first president.

 

 


LIBRARY

I enjoy working at the Society's library because it keeps me active, and I love researching family and local history.

A library volunteer working on a computerLibrary Reference Volunteers: Assist the general public with historical and genealogical research, using the many historical resources found in the Frederick County Archives and Research Center. Other opportunities include doing research for upcoming projects, maintaining the genealogy and history files, as well as helping other volunteers and staff with projects. Those with prior experience with genealogical research may work on fulfilling online and mail research requests. Shifts Available: Tuesday-Saturday 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m

Archival Assistant Volunteers: Assist with the processing and preservation of the manuscripts, photographs, maps and other historical documents in the Historical Society's collection. Shifts Available- Tuesday-Saturday 10:00-4:00
