GENERAL INFORMATION
Conveniently located at the “Crossroads of American History,” the Museum of Frederick County History preserves and interprets the history of the county. Visitors to the Museum are carried back in time as they experience the exhibitions in an 1820 home in the heart of Historic Downtown Frederick.
Guided tours, special exhibitions and the Society’s rich collection of decorative and fine arts tell the story of Frederick County, Maryland, from the Colonial period, through the Civil War, to the present day. The Society’s exquisite collection of tall case clocks is a “must see” during your visit. The Museum’s Heritage Garden provides beauty, as well as educational experiences, through natural elements and living exhibits in season.
Researchers will enjoy discovering the wealth of materials in the Society’s Research Library. A variety of historical books and related items can be found in the Marshall Etchison Bookstore.
Educational programs and tours for children and adults are available from the Historical Society.
