Fast Frederick Facts

Barbara FritchieFrederick resident Barbara Fritchie was ninety-five years old when Confederate troops passed by her door in September of 1862. Although historians have cast doubt upon her response to the Rebel Army, she was immortalized in John Greenleaf Whittier’s Poem, Barbara Frietchie.

FUNDS

The Historical Society of Frederick County receives vital support from a variety of permanent and pass-through funds at The Community Foundation of Frederick County. You can contribute to one of these established funds or create one of your own.

Historical Society of Frederick County Endowment Fund

The fund supports the general operations of the Historical Society, including museum exhibitions, collections conservation, educational programs, and research services.

Historical Society of Frederick County Facilities Preservation Fund

The fund supports capital improvements and helps to maintain facilities owned by the Historical Society, including the Church Street property (home to the Museum of Frederick County History and Frederick County Archives & Research Center), Roger Brooke Taney House, and Heritage Preservation Center.

Historical Society of Frederick County Collection Acquisition Fund

The fund provides for the purchase of objects and collections with historical significance to Frederick County for the Historical Society's permanent collection.

John J. Markell Memorial Art Contest Fund

The fund provides for cash awards and other expenses associated with the implementation of the annual art contest for high school students. (For more information about the contest, see the Education page.)

Parsons Newman Memorial Fund

The fund was founded by Mr. & Mrs. John D. Hendrickson II for grants to the Historical Society of Frederick County to host programs on historical topics known as "The P. Newman Lecture Series." This lecture initiates our annual Lecture Series.

Roger Brooke Taney House
Endowment Fund

The fund was founded by Helen Delaplaine for the support of the Roger Brooke Taney House, a historic site owned and operated by the Historical Society.
