Fast Frederick Facts

RepudiationOn November 23, 1765, one of the first official acts against the British Government took place in Frederick County. In an act of defiance against the unpopular Stamp Act, members of the Frederick County Court issued a writ on unstamped, untaxed paper. Their act of defiance was greeted by angry residents who hung the stamp collector in effigy and buried a copy of the despised act.

Visitors will be guided through the museum, housed in an 1820s Federal style home, to learn of the people who lived there, including the girls who lived in the house when it was operating as an orphanage. Docents tell of the rich history of Frederick County including its industry, historical figures and its role in the Civil War. Please allow one hour and fifteen minutes for your group’s tours. Docents may be able to emphasize topics that are of interest to your group, such as antiques or the Civil War. If interested, discuss these options with the tour registrar when making your reservation.
