Dr. John BaltzellDr. John Baltzell, the physician who built the house, which is the current home to the Historical Society of Frederick County, was the grandnephew of John Thomas and Margaret Schley, the first people to purchase a plot of land in the new city of Frederick Towne.

MISSION

The Historical Society of Frederick County is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to increasing public awareness and appreciation of the history of Frederick County. The Society collects and preserves artifacts and documents for study and education, and welcomes the participation of people of all ages in sharing informative and engaging experiences that will encourage them to discover and appreciate their heritage.

Historical Society of Frederick County offers individual and family membership at a variety of levels that provide benefits to you and helps to support the organization’s museums, research center, and educational public programs. Business memberships also are available at various levels. For membership information, click here.

The HSFC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization, donations to which are deductible to the full extent of the law. The Historical Society’s current financial statement is available upon request. Information submitted to the State of Maryland under the Charitable Solicitations Act is available from the Office of the Secretary of State for the cost of copying and postage.
