Museum visitors discover the story of Frederick County from the Colonial period, through the Civil War, to the present day with the help of trained docents. Permanent and special exhibitions draw on the Society’s rich collection of historical artifacts, photographs and documents.

Built in the 1790s, the Roger Brooke Taney House is a rare architectural survival from 18th century Frederick. Life of the middling class in the Early Republic era is interpreted and the unique aspects of slavery in Frederick County are emphasized in the slave quarters.
